El Tarter is one of the most convenient places to park for Grandvalira, with two free car parks by the slopes. The important catch is that the entrance barrier at the gondola car park comes down at about 8 pm: you can leave after that, but cannot re-enter, and overnight stays are not allowed.
Quick guide: choose by your plans
For a ski day when you will return before the evening, use the free Tarter gondola car park beside the lifts. If you plan to be out after 8 pm, choose Parking Àliga, travel by bus or leave the car at your hotel. The Tarter lot allows vehicles to exit after the barrier closes, but not to enter again; overnight stays are not permitted.
If you are visiting the centre of Andorra, you can leave the car in El Tarter and take the bus. During ski season, blue-zone spaces are difficult to find, so a paid hotel space may be the more practical choice for a multi-day stay.
- Arrive early on weekends and during school holidays.
- Check the barrier hours before leaving the vehicle.
- Use winter tyres or carry suitable snow chains when conditions require them.
| Option | Location | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tarter gondola car park | Beside the lifts | Free; entrance barrier closes at around 8 pm; no overnight stays |
| Parking Àliga | El Tarter sector | Free alternative without a night barrier; check signs on arrival |
| Village street spaces | El Tarter | Limited capacity; follow local signs |
| Hotel del Tarter | Beside the resort | Large free guest car park; convenient for multi-day stays |
| Hotel Nòrdic | At the slopes | Private underground parking, paid |
Options if you leave after 8 pm
Parking Àliga is another free car park in El Tarter and does not have a night barrier. Check its location and any current resort instructions before leaving your car.
If you plan to go into the centre, the local guide recommends leaving the car in El Tarter and taking the bus. For a multi-day visit, blue-zone parking may be hard to find during ski season; paying for hotel parking can be more convenient.
- Do not leave the car overnight at the Tarter gondola car park.
- Use Parking Àliga if you need to leave later; verify current site conditions.
- Take the bus into the centre or use a hotel space for a late return.
Parking Àliga, the bus and village spaces
A local bus can help if the resort car park is inconvenient or full. Check the current line, stop and timetable before leaving the car, particularly outside the main ski season.
Street parking in El Tarter is limited and may be regulated. If your hotel has private parking, confirm the fee and reservation rather than relying on a public space. The Hotel del Tarter is the easiest choice if you want to avoid barriers and parking schedules: it has a large free lot beside the hotel.
- For a late evening, check Parking Àliga hours and tariff.
- For public transport, verify the seasonal bus schedule.
- Hotel del Tarter: three-star hotel by the slopes, with a large free car park; some rates include buffet breakfast.
- Hotel Nòrdic: four-star mountain hotel with paid private underground parking.
"Good location, comfortable, ski lockers, lift passes on sale, very good breakfast and parking."
"Great for an Andorran pit stop; secure underground parking was a bonus. It was very quiet in October; I imagine it is very busy in ski season, when being right on the slopes would be great. Lovely alpine-style room with a balcony overlooking the piste."
Other parking and getting around
Street spaces in the village are limited and may be regulated. If the resort car park is full, follow local signs rather than leaving the car in a restricted area.
Accommodation in El Tarter may offer guest parking; confirm whether it is included, reserved and accessible during your travel dates.
