Practical information about Encamp
Encamp offers the calm of a mountain town with the convenience of a small city. The parish has two distinct areas: Encamp centre and Pas de la Casa, near the French border. I was born and raised in Encamp, and this guide focuses on Encamp centre, with its monuments, museums, walking routes and local facilities, based on my own experience.
Encamp is a practical base for cultural visits and mountain outings. The centre is about 10 minutes by car from Andorra la Vella and sits on the main road from France and Spain; plan whether to explore on foot, drive to outlying sights or use the Funicamp.
| Plan | Practical advice |
|---|---|
| Getting there | Encamp is on the main road through central Andorra; bus L2 connects it with Andorra la Vella |
| Parking | Blue-zone parking is free at weekends; green zones remain paid |
| Visit duration | Half a day for the main monuments; a full day for museums and a short hike |
| Best season | The town is a year-round visit; mountain activities depend on weather and season |
How to get to Encamp
Encamp centre is about 10 minutes by car from Andorra la Vella. The L2 bus connects the capital with Encamp; L3 and L4 also serve the parish but can be busier in winter with ski traffic. Check bus.ad for current routes and timetables.
Where to park
Blue-zone parking is free at weekends in Encamp. Green-zone spaces remain paid, so check the colour of the road markings. There is also a blue-zone area beside the tunnel at the southern entrance to town, where spaces may still be available when the centre is busy. Check signs and current rules before leaving your car.
How long to stay and the best time to visit
Allow half a day for the main monuments, a full day if you want to add the museums and a short walk, or a weekend to explore at a relaxed pace. Spring, summer and autumn are useful for walking; winter brings ski access and snow conditions that can affect roads and trails.
Accommodation in Encamp
Encamp can be a more affordable base during ski season than accommodation beside the slopes, while keeping you closer to Andorra la Vella. Options include Hotel Encamp, Hotel Guillem & Spa and Apartaments Shusski. Guest feedback highlights Hotel Encamp's clean rooms, comfortable beds, friendly service and help with gluten-free and lactose-free requests; Hotel Guillem & Spa's children's spa, breakfast buffet, garage, location near the Funicamp and help with ski passes and equipment rental; and the well-kept apartments and attentive staff at Apartaments Shusski. Compare locations with your itinerary and check parking availability when booking.

Monuments and museums
Encamp combines Romanesque heritage with museums that explain Andorra's rural life, transport and industrial history. Opening arrangements for churches and museums vary, so check in advance if there is one particular place you want to see.
Encamp Tibetan Bridge (free suspension bridge)
This is the free suspension bridge at Els Cortals d'Encamp, not the ticketed Canillo Tibetan Bridge. You can reach it from the Funicamp by getting off at the intermediate station, or drive to the climbing wall on the road and walk for about 15 minutes. The path is easy and family-friendly when conditions allow; in summer, the nearby river is a place to cool off. Check snow and access conditions before setting out.
Lake Engolasters
Lake Engolasters is one of the few Andorran lakes that can be reached directly by car. It is about 10 minutes from Encamp centre via the CS-200, with parking nearby. The walking route from Encamp centre is an easy 1.5–2-hour return trip; check the distance and elevation gain before choosing your walk.
Les Bons
Les Bons is one of Andorra's prettiest medieval villages, about five minutes by car from Encamp centre. Its main sights are the Romanesque church of Sant Romà de les Bons and the Moorish Tower, a medieval defensive tower. Allow about an hour for a short visit.
Santa Eulàlia d'Encamp
This Romanesque church dates from the 11th–12th centuries and is known for its bell tower. Restoration work was reported in April 2026; check with Encamp's tourist office to confirm whether the interior is open during your visit.
Sant Miquel de la Mosquera
This church in the centre of Encamp was built in the 16th century and enlarged in the 18th. It is still used for Mass and has attractive interior paintings. Ask the Encamp tourist office whether visits are possible.
Encamp's museums
The National Automobile Museum, the MW Electricity Museum and the Ethnographic Museum Casa Cristo offer three different perspectives on Andorran life. Check current opening hours and entry information.
- National Automobile Museum: one of Andorra's most visited museums, with more than 80 historic cars, motorcycles and bicycles. Budget around €5 for an adult ticket; opening hours are 10 am–2 pm and 3–6 pm. It is at Av. de Joan Martí, 64. Check current prices and hours before visiting.
- MW Electricity Museum: an interactive look at Andorra's electricity history, housed in Encamp's former hydroelectric plant at Av. de la Bartra, off the CG-2, away from the town centre. Budget around €5 for admission and about an hour for a visit; consider taking the bus.
- Ethnographic Museum Casa Cristo: an 18th-century village house at Carrer dels Cavallers, 2, in central Encamp, with well-preserved traditional Andorran architecture and exhibits about rural life. Budget around €5 for admission and 30–45 minutes for a visit.
Funicamp, hiking and outdoor activities
The Funicamp cable car links Encamp with the Grandvalira mountain area. In winter it gives skiers access to the slopes; in summer, operation and available activities depend on the season and weather.
Encamp is also a gateway to routes towards the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape and one of Andorra's best-known valleys. The valley can be reached from Encamp using the Funicamp when it is operating; check its availability and the official access information in advance. Choose a walk that matches your fitness and experience, and check current trail conditions.
- Check the Funicamp operating calendar before planning a mountain visit.
- Wear sturdy footwear and take weather-appropriate clothing.
- Allow time to visit both central Encamp and Les Bons.
- Camí del Tamarro is a themed route based on the legend of imaginary creatures that protect forests and nature. Each parish has its own tamarro; Encamp's is called Enko, usually around a 10-minute walk from a parking area. Official Tamarro souvenirs are available at tourist offices.
| Route or activity | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Walk beside the Tibetan Bridge | Easy 30-minute to 2-hour riverside outing; best in spring and summer |
| Encamp to Lake Engolasters | Easy 1.5–2-hour return walk; summer is ideal |
| Camí del Tamarro | Family-focused themed trail; allow 2–3 hours |
| Passeig de Mojácar | Easy riverside walk of about 30 minutes |
| Tram Valira d'Orient | Easy riverside section of about 10 minutes |
| Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley | A protected UNESCO cultural landscape; plan a proper hike |
Walk beside the river near the Tibetan Bridge
The small river beside the Encamp Tibetan Bridge has a peaceful, tree-lined path that does not require a steep climb. Allow 30 minutes to two hours depending on how far you explore; the difficulty is low. In summer, you can paddle or swim where safe and permitted, but the water is cold.
Sports and community facilities
Encamp has several local facilities for families and sports visitors, including Parc de l'Ossa, the Mola swimming pool, the sociocultural complex, Prada de Moles and the FAF stadium.
