Hi, I'm Manuel. I'm from Andorra. I wrote this guide because I've seen so many articles about where to stay in Andorra written by people who have never actually lived here. In this guide I walk you through each area of Andorra one by one: who it's for, recommended hotels and parking tips. I also give you my recommendations based on your trip type.
Even though it's a small country, Andorra has a surprisingly wide range of things to do. Hiking, museums, spas, via ferratas, skiing, shopping, and more. Whether you're planning a weekend trip in summer or a ski getaway, this guide has you covered. I'll break down each area so you can choose based on what matters most to you.

My recommendations by trip type
Andorra is divided into 7 parishes. There's the centre (Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany), then a valley to the west (La Massana, Ordino) and one to the east (Encamp, Canillo). On the border with France there is Pas de la Casa and on the border with Spain there is Sant Julià de Lòria.
Here's what I'd do depending on your trip, followed by a detailed breakdown of each area with hotels and parking tips.
Areas of Andorra: where should you sleep?
Below I break down each area with hotels, prices and parking tips.
Centre: Andorra la Vella & Escaldes-Engordany Most practical
The centre is genuinely the most practical option and the one I recommend to most people. You've got shops, restaurants, spas like Caldea, parks, and everything walkable. You get city convenience while still being right next to the mountains.
There's actually a great mountain walk right above the valley — the Rec del Solà . It's accessible on foot and you see the whole centre from above. Check my Rec del Solà guide for directions.
The most practical way to get around Andorra is by car, especially if you want to hike or reach mountain lakes. That said, you can take the bus for the most popular trails or for skiing — from the centre you can reach any parish directly. And if you love lakes, I've got a guide to Andorra's lakes.
It's usually not possible to pre-book hotel parking, so it's worth having a backup plan. A 25-minute walk from the centre you have the Parking Madriu (2,50€/day). Another option is Empark Escaldes Centre, a private parking you can book online. Full locations and money-saving tips are in my guide to parking in Andorra.
Best hotels with parking in the centre
I don't know of any hotels with free parking in the centre. Rates are around €18–25/day, but there are some highly rated options. For more choices check my guide to hotels with parking in the centre.
- Hotel Metropolis (9.3 / 10) — 4★ great value, parking €25/day. One of the highest-rated hotels in the area, 5 minutes from Caldea and 10 from the centre.
- Hotel & Aparthotel Cosmos (8.2 / 10) — budget-friendly, parking €18/day. Affordable option in Escaldes, next to Caldea. Rooms from €80 in June 2026.
- Roc Blanc Hotel & Spa — Premium. 4★ central in Escaldes, right next to Caldea, with its own spa. Around €230/night if booked in advance (January 2026 prices).
Best hostel in Andorra la Vella: Barri Antic Hostel & Pub
Modern hostel in a historic building in the old town (Casa Ton del Carbonell). Around €60/night per person in high season booked in advance (January 2026 prices).
Encamp Budget Skiing
The Funicamp gondola takes you up to Grau Roig (Grandvalira) in 15 minutes. You leave your car, go skiing, come back and still have time to head to the centre for dinner. It's 10–15 minutes from Andorra la Vella and prices are 20–30% cheaper than Soldeu or Pas de la Casa. Best of both worlds.
Perfect for beginners: At Grau Roig (where the Funicamp arrives) there's a practice area with a ski school. If you've never skied, you can book lessons and learn the basics right there, then come back down a red run slowly with the instructors.
Encamp has free parking on weekends in the blue zone, and a free Park & Ride if you validate your ski pass. Full details in my complete guide to parking in Encamp.
Recommended hotel
- Hotel Encamp — Budget. 3-star with good value for money. From what I've been told, it's one of the cheapest in Encamp. Double room for a couple from €100/night booked in advance (January 2026 prices). Private hotel parking for ~€15/night.
Looking for things to do while you're in Encamp? Check my guide on what to do in Encamp.
La Massana Budget Skiing
La Massana is like Encamp but in the western valley. It has a direct gondola to Pal Arinsal (formerly Vallnord). Quiet village with supermarkets and restaurants. Same concept as Encamp: fast slope access, close to the centre, cheaper prices.
If you're travelling by car, I'd recommend checking my complete guide to parking in La Massana to find free parking or the best municipal car parks.
Best hotel in La Massana: Hotel Rutllan & Spa
4-star classic mountain chalet with spa and heated pool. Right next to the Pal-Arinsal gondola. Buffet breakfast included. Perfect for couples or families who want comfort and a spa after skiing.
Best hostel in La Massana: Font Andorra Hostel by Nexta
Modern hostel. Some French friends of mine got €27.50/night on a November weekend booked a month in advance. If you're after the cheapest option and don't mind shared spaces, this is a solid pick.
Soldeu & El Tarter Slope-side Hiking
Grandvalira is the largest ski domain in the Pyrenees (210+ km) and it's in Andorra. Soldeu and El Tarter are two neighbouring villages right on the slopes. It's the best option if skiing is your main priority. There's also a great après-ski scene with music bars — what's known as après-ski.
I'd recommend prioritising El Tarter because it has a huge free car park next to the gondola. Bear in mind the entrance barrier closes around 20:00. After that you can leave if needed, but you won't be able to get back in until the next day — so it's not practical if you're planning to go out for dinner or evening activities with your car. In winter, slope-side is the most expensive area in Andorra, but if you want direct slope access and the atmosphere, it's the best.
In summer the area completely changes: prices drop by up to 50% and it becomes one of the cheapest areas in Andorra. It's also a great base for hiking — right next to the Incles Valley where you'll find Llac Juclar.
Some French friends went in summer and stayed at Apartamentos Prat de les Molleres: a couple with a dog spent 7 nights in the first week of July for €45/night + €60 total for the dog. In winter getting under €100/night in Soldeu is tough, so the savings are real.
Best hotels in El Tarter
El Tarter has a huge free car park next to the gondola, so parking is never a problem here. These are my picks:
- Hotel del Tarter (9.0 / 10) — 3★ with a small free parking area next to the hotel. Ski locker room, ski pass sales and buffet breakfast.
- Hotel Ransol (7.9 / 10) — budget option. 2★ a 28-minute walk from the El Tarter gondola, so best to drive and park free at the gondola car park (or next to the hotel if there's space).
Best hotels in Soldeu
Note that there's no free parking here: the covered Grandvalira car park costs around €10–15/day. More details in my guide to parking in Soldeu.
- Sport Hotel Hermitage & Spa — Luxury. Andorra's only 5-star ski-in/ski-out hotel in Soldeu. Its own 5,000m² spa and paid covered parking. From €500/night for a couple booked in advance (January 2026 prices).
- Apartamentos Prat de les Molleres — kitchen option. This is where my French friends stayed in summer: a couple with a dog for 7 nights at €45/night + €60 for the dog. Ski-in/ski-out with equipped kitchen and outdoor parking. In winter from €100–140/night booked in advance (January 2026 prices). Pets welcome.
Looking for lower prices in winter? Check out Encamp, 30% cheaper than slope-side.
Pas de la Casa Slope-side Hiking
It sits on the French border, at higher altitude (better snow), but more isolated from the centre. If you're coming by car, watch out: many hotels advertise parking but it's actually just the blue zone. That's why I put together a guide to hotels in Pas de la Casa with real parking.
It's also great for nature and hiking. There's the Abelletes lake 18 minutes on foot, and you're close to Grau Roig and the Pessons lakes.
Best hotels in Pas de la Casa
- Hotel Pic Maià — my top pick for stress-free parking. It's on the outskirts (about 4 km), near the slopes, with free outdoor parking in front of the hotel. There's also paid covered parking (~€18/night) if you want your car under cover in winter.
- Hotel Grau Roig (9.5 / 10) — Luxury. 5★ 10 minutes from Pas de la Casa, next to the Grau Roig resort, with a huge free car park across the road. In summer it's ideal for hiking: close to the first Pessons lake.
- Hotel Panda — Affordable. Simple slope-side hotel. You can find it for around €100/night for a couple if you book ahead (January 2026 prices).
Arinsal Slope-side Hiking
Arinsal is a quieter resort, great for families. It's where the La Massana gondola takes you. I don't ski that often or buy a season pass, but when I do go I usually head to Arinsal because I have a friend who works there. It tends to be less crowded than Grandvalira on the other side of Andorra.
It's also a spectacular hiking base in summer. The ascent to Comapedrosa peak (Andorra's highest mountain at 2,942 m) starts from here. I've parked at the Hotel Patagonia's free car park to start that route.
Recommended hotels
- Hotel Princesa Parc Mountain Resort & Spa — Full ski-in/ski-out resort with spa, heated pool and bowling alley. Very family friendly. Around €200/night for a couple in high season (January 2026 prices).
- Aparthotel Sant Andreu — Budget apartment option with equipped kitchen, a 5-minute walk from the lifts. Great for cooking and saving money. Around €110/night booked ahead.
- Hotel Yomo Patagonia (8.7 / 10) — With a huge free car park right at the entrance. This is my top recommendation if you're coming by car: a large free outdoor car park in front (a genuine luxury in Andorra) and excellent views. The Comapedrosa trail starts right next door.

Ordino Hiking
Quiet valley. Ordino is one of the prettiest villages in Andorra. It has the Tristaina lakes (3 accessible glacial lakes) and a Solar Viewpoint right next to them. Fewer tourists, more authentic. In summer prices drop by up to 50% compared to winter, and it's a perfect base for hiking.
Recommended hotel
- Hotel Coma (8.0 / 10) — A fantastic, very central option in Ordino village itself. It stands out for its completely free outdoor parking for guests (plus paid indoor garage), and an EV charging point. Perfect year-round, with great facilities (outdoor seasonal pool, tennis, mini golf and large green areas).
Canillo Skiing
Canillo is a quiet mountain village and the capital of its parish. While it has direct gondola access to the Canillo sector of Grandvalira, the area stands out for some incredible attractions like the spectacular Roc del Quer viewpoint and the Tibetan Bridge. In winter it's very family-friendly for skiing, and in summer it's a good base for the Incles Valley.
Watch out with the car: in Canillo town centre the blue zone is paid every day of the week, Sundays included (something that catches many tourists off guard). Also, you can't drive up to the Tibetan Bridge in a private car; you have to park down in the village (I recommend the Els Arenys car park next to the shuttle bus). To avoid fines and find the car parks with the first hour free, check my complete guide to parking in Canillo.
Recommended hotel
- Hotel Obaga Blanca (9.0 / 10) — Just 600 metres from the centre in a very quiet area. My top pick for hassle-free parking: it offers completely free outdoor parking for guests (plus paid indoor garage). Huge suite-style rooms and an included spa, perfect for unwinding after a day of hiking or skiing.
Sant Julià de Lòria Naturland
Sant Julià de Lòria is Andorra's southernmost parish, bordering Spain directly. Being at lower altitude, it enjoys a slightly milder climate and a much less crowded atmosphere than the ski-tourism areas. It's best known for Naturland, Andorra's mountain adventure park whose main draw is the famous Tobotronc (the world's longest natural toboggan at 5.3 km).
The parish also hides medieval rural gems like the picturesque village of Auvinyà, a medieval residential area with very photogenic cobblestone alleys that looks like something out of a fairy tale.
Bear in mind that in the Sant Julià de Lòria town centre the blue and green zones are active every day of the week, Sundays included. If you're visiting Naturland or the village by car, check the full parking guide for Sant Julià (currently in development).
Recommended hotels
- Hotel Parador de Canòlich (Adults Only) — The most unique and recommended hotel in the area. At 1,635 metres in an idyllic mountain setting, next to the Canòlich Sanctuary (about 3.4 km from the town centre). Perfect if you're after complete disconnection in nature, with the added bonus of free public parking nearby.
- Hotel Sol Park — For those who want something more central. Located in the Sant Julià de Lòria town centre. Own parking for €7/day — very reasonable for being right in the centre.
For skiing: where should you stay?
If skiing is your main reason for coming, the ideal is to be slope-side: you wake up, click in your skis and go. The ski-in/ski-out options are:
- Soldeu & El Tarter – Grandvalira, 210 km, the liveliest atmosphere
- Pas de la Casa – French border, best snow
- Arinsal – quieter and more family-friendly
If you want to ski without paying the slope-side premium, the gondola options are:
- Encamp – 30% cheaper, Funicamp to Grau Roig in 15 min
- La Massana – direct gondola to Pal Arinsal, 10–15 min from the centre
⚠️ Watch out for the après-ski traffic: If you're not staying slope-side you can drive up to ski during the day, but be careful about when you head back down. The slopes close around 17:00, and from 16:45 to 18:00 there are classic end-of-day queues. Once coming back from France I was at Soldeu at 16:50 and it took over an hour to reach Encamp. Normally it's 30 minutes. I'd recommend already being in Encamp by 16:40!
More detail in my guide to where to ski in Andorra comparing the resorts.
For summer: where should you stay?
In summer Andorra completely changes: hiking, glacial lakes and pretty villages, with hotels up to 50% cheaper than in winter.
I recommend the centre, Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany, because it's the most practical to be in the city and Andorra really is quite small. You've got shops, restaurants, spas like Caldea, all within walking distance.
If you want to prioritise hiking and be in the heart of the mountains, I recommend El Tarter, because it has free parking in the village and you're right next to the Incles Valley, with plenty of trails and lakes.
Another good option is Arinsal, if you want to be on the other side of the country.
If you're on a tight budget in summer, slope-side areas (the most expensive in winter) drop by up to 50%. Encamp and La Massana also tend to be cheaper than the centre all year round.
If you're looking for easy family walks, I have a guide to easy hikes in Andorra. And if you're coming for 2–3 days, my Andorra 2–3 day itinerary organises each day for you (Encamp Tibetan bridge, Bosc de les Allaus viewpoint, Les Bons, Caldea...).
Practical Tips
Transport
Car recommended: It gives you total freedom to explore villages, switch resorts, reach viewpoints. Many of the most beautiful spots are beyond the reach of public transport. Note that in winter it's mandatory to have winter tyres or use chains when there's snow.
Car rental
- Outside Andorra (Barcelona, Toulouse): Compare prices
- Inside Andorra: Find car rental in Andorra
- Price: From ~€50 for a weekend (if there are 2+ of you, it's cheaper than the bus)
Connectivity & Internet
Most hotels include WiFi. Shopping centres (Pyrénées, Illa Carlemany) and ski resorts also have free WiFi.
⚠️ Important: Roaming in Andorra is expensive (it's not included in EU plans). If you need mobile data, check eSIM options and local rates in my complete guide to internet in Andorra.
Parking
If you're driving to the centre of Andorra la Vella, be aware that parking can be tricky. The blue zone is paid every day (including Sundays) and car parks aren't cheap.
💡 Tip: If parking matters to you, check my guide to hotels in Andorra with free parking. I also have a complete guide to parking in Andorra with money-saving tips.
Alternative: Airbnb & Rentals
Booking has hotels, but Airbnb can be better in some cases. You can find cheaper accommodation but there are usually fewer options. In fact Andorra now limits new tourist flat licences. Even so, Airbnb is still worth considering!
