Getting to Andorra
By car, bus, plane or train connections
Andorra can be reached by car, bus, plane or train combined with road transport. Driving gives you the most freedom once you arrive, while regular buses connect the country with cities in Spain, France and Portugal. There is no railway station in Andorra.
From Spain, the road enters Andorra on the N-145 from La Seu d'Urgell. From France, the usual approach is via the N-22 and Pas de la Casa; routes through the Puymorens area are another option. Mountain weather can affect access, so check road conditions before setting off, especially in winter.
Barcelona is about 190 km from Andorra la Vella; the drive normally takes around 2 hours 45 minutes on the toll route, or about 3 hours 10 minutes on the toll-free alternative, before traffic and stops. Allow extra time on busy weekends and during holiday periods. Travel times, fares and road restrictions can change, so confirm them with the operator or road authority before travelling.

Driving is the most popular way to reach Andorra: it gives you flexibility, lets you enjoy the Pyrenean scenery and makes it easier to travel between parishes. From Spain, there is one road entrance, the N-145 from La Seu d'Urgell. In the centre, parking can cost €18–25 per day, although cheaper options are available. See the guide to hotels with parking before booking.
Renting a car can be cheaper than you think
A weekend rental can cost around €50, while a return bus ticket is about €35 per person. For two or more people, compare the total cost: a car may work out cheaper and gives you more freedom.
Viewpoints, mountain lakes and hiking trails are often beyond the reach of public transport. With a car, you can stop where you like, change plans and avoid depending on timetables.
From 1 November to 15 May, vehicles must carry suitable winter equipment. Check that a rental car has winter tyres or carry chains; the fine for travelling without the required equipment is €90. Read the snow-chain and winter-equipment guide.
