The reality of buying ski equipment in Andorra
Andorra's IGI is 4.5%, compared with Spain's 21%, a difference of around 16.5 percentage points. On skis costing €600, that is about €100; on €400 ski boots, around €65. On €150 beginner equipment, the difference is only about €25.
Buying is most worthwhile if you need a full set of equipment or mid- to high-end gear. Many people combine shopping with a ski trip to Grandvalira or Vallnord.
Book your ski rental in advance
I recommend booking your equipment online in advance. When you arrive, the process is much quicker because the shop has already recorded each skier's size and height and can hand over the complete package.
Online reservations can also save up to 20% at shops such as Pic Negre and Viladomat. It saves both time and money.
Customs allowance: up to €900 per person
Important: you can bring up to €900 worth of purchases per person across the border without declaring them. If you exceed this allowance, you must declare the goods and pay the applicable taxes.
Customs points to keep in mind
- The €900 limit applies per person, not per vehicle.
- Checks are frequent, especially during the ski season.
- Keep your receipts in case you are asked for them at the border.
Best time to buy: sales and opening hours
The best time to buy ski equipment is at the end of the season (March-April), when shops clear winter stock before the next season. This coincides with Andorra's sports sales, which run from February to April, and discounts on skis, boots and clothing can reach 50-60%.
During this period, shops at the foot of the slopes and outlets clear the equipment from the season that is ending, so this is when you can find the best prices of the year.
Black Friday and year-round outlets can also offer good deals, but the end of the season is when shops really clear their stock at the best prices.
🏷️ Sales periods
Sales in Andorra are similar to Spain, but they usually start a few days earlier. You can take advantage of additional discounts that stack on top of already competitive prices.
- Summer sales 2026: 19 June - 30 August 2026
- Winter sales 2025-2026: 26 December 2025 - 8 March 2026
- Sports equipment sales: 6 February - 19 April 2026
- Black Friday and Cyber Monday: November
