When you walk through the centre of Andorra, you soon notice perfume shops on almost every corner of Avinguda Meritxell and Avinguda Carlemany. That is no surprise: prices are competitive compared with Spain and France, thanks to Andorra's 4.5% IGI.

This guide covers where to find Júlia and Gala (the two main chains), what to see at the Perfume Museum, how to shop online from Andorra and how much you can really save.

How much can you save on perfume in Andorra?

Andorra has an IGI rate of 4.5% (compared with VAT of 21% in Spain and 20% in France), which is why perfumes are cheaper. The actual saving is usually 20-30%, depending on the product and comparison.

Perfumeries Júlia: Andorra's largest chain

Júlia is Andorra's largest perfumery chain, with more than 20 shops across the country. Founded by Júlia Bonet, it pioneered cosmetics in Andorra and has become a local institution.

Its shops carry a wide range of international brands, including Chanel, Dior, Hermès and Gucci, as well as its own Ligne Júlia range. The modern, well-organised stores have staff who speak Spanish, French, Catalan and English.

Main Júlia locations

Júlia has more than 20 shops in Andorra. The main locations include:

  • Avinguda Carlemany, 115: the flagship store, which houses the Perfume Museum.
  • Other shops along Avinguda Carlemany.
  • Several shops in the main shopping area on Avinguda Meritxell.
  • Several shops in Pas de la Casa, near the French border.
  • You can also find Júlia shops in Encamp, Canillo, La Massana and other parishes.

The Júlia Bonet Perfume Museum

The Perfume Museum is the only museum dedicated to perfume in the Pyrenees. It is on the first floor of the Júlia perfumery at Avinguda Carlemany, 115. If you are interested in perfume, allow 30-45 minutes for your visit.

Admission is free and there is no obligation to buy anything. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday; hours vary by day.

Perfumeries Gala: Júlia's main competitor

Gala is Andorra's other major perfumery chain. It has fewer shops than Júlia, but they are in strategic locations and offer a similar range of international brands, competitive prices and good service.

One advantage is Gala's well-developed online shop, which delivers to Spain and other countries.

Main Gala locations

The main shops are in Andorra la Vella, along Avinguda Meritxell and elsewhere in the centre, and in Pas de la Casa. Gala also has shops in Escaldes-Engordany, Canillo, Encamp and Sant Julià de Lòria.

Perfume shops in Pas de la Casa

Pas de la Casa is on the French border and has perfume shops on almost every street in the centre. It is a convenient stop if you are travelling from France or going skiing at Grandvalira.

Shopping here is more about convenience than the in-store experience, but there is plenty of choice and fierce competition between shops, which benefits shoppers.

Buying perfume online from Andorra

Ordering perfume from Andorra for delivery to Spain is generally not worthwhile. Although you pay Andorran IGI (4.5%) at purchase, Spanish VAT (21%) on the product and often expensive delivery costs may be due when the parcel arrives.

Gala has the most developed online shop at gala.ad. If you are visiting Andorra, Click & Collect is a convenient option: order online and collect in store, avoiding delivery costs and Spanish VAT and confirming that the product is available before you travel.

  • Delivery to Spain may incur Spanish VAT and customs charges.
  • Click & Collect is available for collection in store.
  • Gala's online catalogue matches its physical store range.
  • Júlia has a website but focuses less on e-commerce.
  • Some independent perfumeries also sell online; compare the full cost before ordering.

Other perfume and cosmetics shops in Andorra

There are more options than Júlia and Gala, from specialist perfumeries to department stores.

Hotels near the shopping area

Hotels Near the Shopping Area

If you're coming for shopping, the ideal is to sleep nearby so you don't have to take the car every time you want to visit a store. The outlets and Av. Meritxell are right in the centre of Andorra: Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany. So the hotels in this area leave you 5-15 minutes walk from almost everything.

In this section I'm giving you 3 hotels in the centre that I recommend: a 4-star (Hotel Metropolis), a more affordable 3-star (Hotel & Aparthotel Cosmos) and the cheapest of all, a hostel in the old town (Barri Antic Hostel & Pub). All three are within walking distance of the shopping area and I've chosen them to cover three different budgets.

1️⃣ Hotel Metropolis - 4★ with the best rating (Recommended)

⭐ Rating: 9.3/10 · 🏨 Category: 4 stars · 📍 Location: Escaldes-Engordany (~10 min walk from Av. Meritxell) · 🅿️ Parking: 18€/night (ample parking)

Hotel Metropolis is a 4-star and has one of the best ratings in the area. It's in Escaldes, right next to the river, and the walk to Av. Meritxell goes through Prat del Roure park and the Dalí Clock: very pleasant for walking with shopping bags. It's about 20-30€ more expensive than the Cosmos, but the room, breakfast buffet and staff treatment justify the difference.

"The room with an extra-large bed, the very complete breakfast buffet, the soundproofing, ample parking (depending on the vehicle they assign you one or another), perfect. 5 minutes from Caldea and 10 from the centre."

2️⃣ Hotel & Aparthotel Cosmos - 3★ with cheap parking

⭐ Rating: 8.2/10 · 🏨 Category: 3 stars · 📍 Location: Andorra la Vella, right in the centre · 🅿️ Parking: 18€/day

The Cosmos is a well-located 3-star, right in the centre of Andorra la Vella. Its private parking costs 18€/day, one of the most reasonable prices among central hotels. If you come in low season you can find rooms for €80. I recommend it if you're looking for an affordable option without giving up being right in the heart of the shopping area, and also if you prefer having parking included in the price.

"We decided to pay for the hotel parking (€18) since everything in the centre is paid parking. Very central hotel. The breakfast buffet was very complete, all the staff were very friendly. Clean and cozy room."

3️⃣ Barri Antic Hostel & Pub - The cheapest option

⭐ Rating: 8.9/10 · 📍 Location: Barri Antic, Andorra la Vella (old town)

If you're looking for the cheapest option right in the centre, I recommend this hostel in the Barri Antic (old town) of Andorra la Vella. It has its own pub, shared kitchen and a very pleasant youthful atmosphere. Most guests are young backpackers or couples on a tight budget. To park you can use Parking Madriu (€2.10/day, 30 min walk) or look for blue zone/free parking nearby.

"Central location, with a bar downstairs that doesn't disturb you at night at all. Really friendly and helpful people. I'll be back."
